The Light that Shines Through
Materials: Acrylic paint on canvas
Romanticism took place in Western civilization during the late 18th to mid 19th century. The art during this period displayed order, calm, harmony, and balance. It showed the beauty of nature and the different emotions that one may experience while looking at nature.
This is a painting which I have created using acrylic paint on canvas.
In order to capture the period of Romanticism, I painted a nature scene. I wanted to capture the appearance of very green grass, flowing water, trees growing, and sharp mountains that people can explore. I wanted for people to feel as if they are looking at the wonderful scenery that "Mother Nature" provides. By adding thick and thin brush strokes in the water of the painting, I tried to create the appearance of depth. This is also shown using the lighter and darker shades throughout the water and mountains. On the left side of the painting, I also added a small boat in the distance. I added this to balance the right side of the painting, so that the right side would not appear "heavy" with the trees.
Nature is a very beautiful thing and I believe that today, people can get so caught up with their everyday lives, that they miss out on wonderful opportunities to just stop, take a breath, and enjoy life. By looking at this painting, people can stop, breathe and feel as if they are relaxed, sitting on a patch of grass, listening to the sounds of water flowing.
I had gotten my inspiration from this painting, which is a painting of trees, an ocean, and mountains in the distance. Using this painting, I wanted to capture the same feeling, such as feeling as if you are relaxing and staring out into an ocean, taking in the view of the mountains. My painting however, displays more of a dark feeling. There is not a lot of light in my painting because I wanted viewers to realize that nature is something that has to be seen. Without people taking care of the world, and loving and caring for it, there will not be any light.
Therefore, take time to appreciate all that you have.
-Yours Truly
