Expressionsim - Drip, Drop

Drip, Drop

Materials:  Acrylic paint on cartridge paper

Expressionism created new standards for the creation and the judgement of art.  The art was created based on the artist's feelings and emotions, rather than analyzing composition. Artists would often use exaggerated brush strokes to depict their images.  This would show their emotions and reactions of how they felt towards the modern world.

To depict artwork from the period of expressionism I decided to paint an abstract painting of water droplets.  Using circular based objects such as a glass and a bottle, I dipped the objects in different shades of blue paint, and stamped the paint with the objects, on paper.

I decided to paint water droplets because at the time, it was raining outside and the mood of the weather was causing me to feel sad.  Therefore, I painted how I was feeling at the time, which was sadness.  To me, rain gives a sad and depressing feeling, and I would like people to look at the painting and for their mood to change from it.

This can relate to the modern world and society because society can be looked at as negatively influencing people, whether it be political issues, religious factors, or even influencing a persons body image and self.  These negative influences can cause a person to feel sad and to have different emotions.
